          Note-Taker

Students with visual impairment are often at a disadvantage in a typical classroom. They cannot see visual presentations (like PowerPoint slides) or writing on black/white boards, and are therefore unable to take notes. Many students with low vision and legal blindness are able to see at close distance if they hold up the materials a few inches from their eyes. The Note-Taker is a portable device designed for these students, so that they may clearly see presentations and take notes in the classroom–thus leveling the playing field with their sighted peers. The product consists of a high-resolution, autofocus videocamera with zoom, tilt & pan capabilities, and a tablet PC. The user can set this up on a desk in class, watch the camera feed on the PC and simultaneously jot down notes with a stylus. Audio/video data is recorded, synchronized with the handwritten notes and stored. The content is keyword searchable, and the video can be replayed by tapping at any point in the notes.

“Saw your creation. As a mother of a son that is legal blind with low vision I am interested in this product for him. He is almost 8 and with school, font will be getting smaller for him and will cause some struggles and aggravations. If we can keep this to a minimum with products like yours, that makes life easier and more effective for him.”

          Touch Sight

          Picture
Touch sight is a revolutionary digital camera especially designed for visual impaired people to document their life experience. Touch Sight helps visual impaired people "open their eyes" enable them to "share their visual memory" just like others. Simple feature makes it easy to use. Unique recording feature which will record 3 second after pressing the shutter button is designed to recall their memory when they review and manage their photo documents. By using the light-weight, flexible Braille display, these photo documents become the "touchable visual memory".

"I am a legally blind photographer with some vision left, but, as my vision continues to deteriorate, your Touch Sight camera could become a very important tool for me. I am not alone in this. We have a community of visually impaired photographers on Flickr (
www.flickr.com/groups/blind_photographers/) and our members vary in their visual abilities. A notice about your camera was posted to our group this morning by someone who has lost almost all vision and could use your camera now. He is a full-time artist and photographer who has struggled in his work with his loss of vision. I think you might find a ready, if small at first, market for the Touch Sight."

          Touch Messenger

          Picture
Touch Messenger gives blind users an affordable, user friendly cell phone experience on par with sighted users. With the Touch Messenger's innovative screen and keyboard for Braille text messaging, blind users can now take advantage of this rapidly growing form of communication. In addition, products for the disabled tend to lack the emphasis on design and aesthetics as those for the general population. Therefore, the design is as much as a fashion statement as it is a tool. Its soft, curved form not only allows for easy use with either hand, but also appeals to the blind with its great tactile feel and to the sighted with its simple, clean and organic look.
